Microfinance, also known as microcredit​, is a type of banking service provided to un-bankable individuals or groups who normally would not have access to financial services.

In microfinancing, unlike typical financing situations, in which the lender is primarily concerned with the borrower having enough collateral to cover the loan, our microfinance organization Stara, focuses on helping entrepreneurs succeed.

We provide microfinancing services to low-income individuals, and entrepreneurs because most people who have limited financial resources, don’t have enough income to do business with traditional financial institutions. With our micro financial services, we allow people to take on reasonable small business loans safely, in a manner that is consistent with ethical lending practices. 

On top of being easily accessible to the ‘people on the ground’, microfinance sets the stage to allow entrepreneurs who create successful businesses, in turn, create jobs, trade, and overall economic improvement within a community.

At Stara Microcredit, we believe in the saying, ‘empower a woman, you build the nation’, and due to this over 95% of the groups we have trained and financed are women-led, or purely women groups.
